I know, I was so glad this piece played out. It's hard to imagine how she ended up staying on Atlantis with everyone, at least to the point of becoming so important to Rod as to be 'his team' if she was so distant and hard to talk to. Part of me thinks it's that she isn't fooled by Rod's constant charm, just like Rodney's Teyla isn't fooled with John's.
We've all seen the moments where John tries to be witty and charming and Teyla just gives him that raised-eyebrow look. Rod's probably just more thrown off by it. He's not military, after all, so he's probably not used to people (like COs, in John's case) being unimpressed.
