Oh wow! Thank you! This is really intense. Not at all what I was expecting, but I really like it, especially the ending. My favorite line:
"How are you--not repulsed?" he asked, and maybe he was talking about his yellow eyes and blue scales, and maybe he was talking about being a guy who liked other guys, and maybe he was just talking about being skinny, geeky John Robert Sheppard Jr. with his buzz cut and his pocket protector and his total lack of social skills.
Wow, that was amazing. J.R.'s self-doubt, and the way he was hanging on so desperately to rational thought, I really loved that. Your Rod is great, too.
I really couldn't guess who wrote this, although it doesn't seem much like cesperanza to me.
You have no idea how much I am in love with this - bug!Sheppard is always awesome, but Lt. Col. J.R. Sheppard Jr., Ph.D - that is just too awesome for words. And I really adore the way you describe the difference between him and canon!Sheppard with so few words:
The marines would be happy to report to Major Lorne, who they preferred to him, anyway; Lorne was one of the guys, where J.R. patently wasn't. And the scientists would be thrilled to have him out of their labs: the applied mathematician parachuted into the science division under military cover.
oh, you broke my heart with this version of Mensa!John... maybe he was just talking about being skinny, geeky John Robert Sheppard Jr. with his buzz cut and his pocket protector and his total lack of social skills. oh, John!!
"... skinny, geeky John Robert Sheppard Jr. with his buzz cut and his pocket protector and his total lack of social skills."
This take on Mensa!Sheppard really works for me. He's very different from "our" Sheppard, but it's still possible to see how he could have ended up like that. It's the details that does it, like the fact that he has a buzz cut and a pocket protector. It just works. :)
And hey, this: "I want you," Rod mumbled against his mouth. "I want to come all over you," was HOT.
This combined two of my favorite things: Mensa universe and bug!John. Just awesome. They are both so clearly different from our versions of the characters, but similar enough that they make total sense. Wonderful.
The 'Rod'/'J.R.' change was very subtle and worked surprisingly effectively. Great the way you map some of John's fanon personality onto Rod. Wonderful words (ectothermic and so forth). Hot, too!

I just adore that description of John.

I think I'm in love with J.R. :-)
