You rock. Aside from the fact that this story is A) frickin' terrifying and B) wonderfully complex, I love the idea of Rod's people skills having evolved out of this kind of deadly necessity. I actually quite liked the guy (even though he isn't as awesome as our Rodney) and was a little sad that some people felt he was a creepy manipulative sleazebag. The creepy's definitely here too, but it's much more a product of environmental necessity than personal creepiness on Rod's part (like when he worked to get security clearance for Sheppard to be able to fly the gateships!)

I think possibly the biggest problem with Rod as a character is that, from the perspective we get, he's flawless. He's still an incredible genius, but now he's also got supercool style, awesome athletic ability, and effortless interpersonal skills. He's just too perfect. But translated into the 'verse you've created, he's just what he needs to be in order to keep himself (and now, those he cares about) alive and moving. He isn't confident and charismatic because he just enjoys being popular; he's become who he is in order to survive. And, given the developing ambitions of the expedition, I think he's going to need every shred of advantage he can get.

So, to sum up, I love you and I am desperately hoping for a sequel some day.
